What is an ignition interlock device(Intoxalock)?

An ignition interlock device is a tool that helps to prevent individuals from driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol by testing the person’s breath for alcohol.

Once this device has been installed in a vehicle, the person wishing to drive this vehicle must breathe into the device, which then analyzes the breath sample to determine if the driver’s blood alcohol limit (BAC) is under the predetermined amount. If the BAC exceeds the predetermined amount, the vehicle will not start. If the BAC is satisfactory, the person may drive the vehicle, but the device will prompt the driver for random retests as he or she is driving.

An ignition interlock device is required to be serviced on a regular schedule by an authorized service center to recalibrate it and ensure that it has not been tampered with.
